Thrillist and Verizon: City of More

B2C Product | UX and UI Design Lead

Group Nine’s Advertising Pod designed and developed a site for Thrillist and Verizon Wireless co-branded campaign: City of More. This campaign featured three major cities, New York, Denver and Seattle with Verizon 5G ultra wideband network. With great network coverage, tourists can fully discover and experience local attractions, landmarks, food and drink. Each city had one video created by Brandshop, Group Nine’s in-house creative agency and six editorial articles from Thrillist travel guide.

Our team decided to explore parallax scrolling animations, perspective hover effects and reusable React components for this project. I led the design process from the initial pitch to the final site launch.

Design <> Dev Handoff

I designed all breakpoints and shared the specs to the dev team through InVision. To help depict the 3D perspective and interactions in the UI layout, I decided to use Facebook’s Origami Studio to build an advanced prototype. It simulates the depth, hover effects and animation based on mouse position in the desktop view. The logic flows in its patch editor can be easily turned into code structure. When I handed the prototype over to our developer, he got a live view of 3D effects and got conditions, time durations, types of animation curve, values, etc., everything needed for development. It helped him architect code and this process had significantly accelerated the team's development timeline.
